| Political parties charge candidates fees to run for elective
office. Candidates, who are affiliated with a political party, submit a check for the fee amount
at the time of filing for office with a Department of Elections. The Department holds the
candidate checks until after the withdrawal deadline at which time the checks are sent to the
appropriate political committees. No filing fee may be established for an amount greater than 1%
of the salary for the term of office for any office. Filing fees may be waived by any political
party. Independent candidates and minority party candidates do not pay filing
fees. |
